If your doctor tells you that you need surgery, you might feel worried. Will you be in pain? How long will you be out of work? When can you go back to your normal activities? The good news is that Urology Specialists of Ohio is raising the bar in the operating room. We’ve been designated a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), an independent, nonprofit, patient-safety organization and the leading administrator of quality improvement and accreditation programs for surgeons and hospitals around the world.
Robotic surgery allows for small incisions, with greater accuracy and precision than every before. Most patients experience less pain, decreased risk of infection and blood loss, and faster recovery. Robotic surgery is utilized in the treatment plan for numerous conditions at Urology Specialists of Ohio.
A Trailblazer in Robotics and Surgery
When Dr. Ananth Annamraju graduated from medical school, open surgery with large incisions and was the norm. Minimally invasive surgery— using small incisions and tiny surgical instruments—didn’t exist.
Robotics is the frontier within minimally invasive surgery, and Dr. Annamraju is a pioneer.
In a typical procedure, Dr. Annamraju and his highly skilled team start at the patient’s bedside. The Da Vinci® robot is then docked into proper placement and Dr. Annamraju moves to the surgeon’s console from which he controls everything with unprecedented visualization and precision. The robot gives him four arms instead of two. The high-definition camera provides 3D visualization of the operating site. He uses a set of master controls, and each move is precisely replicated by the robot. The instruments also boost the surgeon’s ability to preserve healthy tissue.
Dr. Espinosa is a Center of Excellence for Urolift which means he has achieved a high level of training and experience with the Urolift System and has shown a commitment to exemplary care for men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Urolift offers an effective treatment for an enlarged prostate without cutting, heating, or removing the tissue. In addition, Urolift is so minimally invasive that it can be done in the office. In many cases, patients can even avoid having a catheter in the bladder. Finally, Urolift often avoids bothersome side effects such as erectile dysfunction, ejaculatory dysfunction, and urinary incontinence.
Reseach has shows that Urolift results in optimal long term outcomes, with patients have symptom relief for an extended period of time without needing any additional procedures. In addition, research ha sshows that Urolift is effective at preserving sexual function and allowing for a quick recovery period.
